2013, commisoned public sculpture.
Queen Size pays tribute to the inner spring mattress; it’s centrality to our lives, its difficult materiality, durability and portability and its soft horizontal contrast to the rigid verticality of the plinth. The plinth project activates an unused plinth in The Edinburgh Gardens, Melbourne which once bore a wooden statue of The Queen of England. The statue was stolen 10 years after it was made and the plinth has stood unadorned for 90 years. Queen Size replaces the figure head of a distant land with something the Australian people know and respect.
